CLUB HISTORY
The Club was formed in 1971, and the first official meeting held on the 30th May 1971. This meeting was attended by 18 people and therefore a general committee was formed for the club. Chairman: Frank Cox, Treasurer: Frank Plumb Committee: Alf Harrold, John Deakin, Shirley Taylor and Irene Sharepe. The committee agreed that the club should be mixed and the memberhship to cost the sum of 50p a year. In June 1972 Mr E Weatherley presented the club with a competition cup, this was designated as a singles competition and was therefore played immediately. By the end of that season in September the winner was John Deakin. In the year of 1975 our first chairman Frank Cox retired and this position was filled in the next meeting. Within the year of 1987 a past president and chairman Doug Bygrave past away, soon followed by Chairman Ted Buck who moved out of the district, this position was filled by Bill Bowler who later took the position of President when Mrs Shirley Taylor stepped down. Bill is still our President today. |
